Guatemala Finca El Injerto - La Calaca - Gesha
Elevation: 1783 Meters
Lemongrass and mandarin orange vie for recognition with plum, concord grape and clover honey in a stunningly complex cup replete with a delicate jasmine bouquet.
- 12 oz bag
We welcome the chance to savor this limited lot of Gesha from Finca El Injerto. Stumptown's own Duane Sorenson brought Gesha seed to the Aguirre family years ago. Later in the same year, Arturo Sr. traveled to Hacienda La Esmeralda and brought some more seeds directly from the Petersons. This exquisite lot not only features the flavors that we associate with Gesha, but also the terroir of Huehuetenango which provides a sharply focused, exotic profile.
According to local legend, witches used to hold rituals in the area of Guatemala Finca El Injerto where the Aguirre family planted Gesha. Found animal skulls gave La Calaca, or 'the Skull', its name and offer proof of the story. Farm workers believe they have transformed the rituals of those long ago witches into a good spell-the coffee cultivated here will bewitch any who dares to drink it.
