Geisha (Central America)

Geisha (Central America)

Geisha is an extremely rare coffee varietal that has made waves in the past 5+ years for having what many coffee connoisseurs consider to be the most brilliantly complex and intense flavor profile of all. Originally brought to Costa Rica from the small town of Gesha in southwestern Ethiopia, the geisha made its way south to Panama, thanks to Don Pachi (Francisco Serracin), before becoming internationally acclaimed. These trees grow to be very tall and have beautiful, elongated leaves. The cherry and beans of this varietal are also elongated by comparison to other varietals and top quality appears to only be produced at extremely high elevation. Geisha has saturated sweetness, superior cleanliness, sparkling flavor that may range from berry and citrus to mango, papaya and peach. A very distinct bergamot-like finish is also typical in the cup profile. To date, it is the champion of coffee varietals.

  • Intense aromas of cherry blossoms and honeysuckle set the tone for flavors of pineapple, kiwi and green grape held together by a viscous, Bordeaux-like mouth feel.
