Gesha is an extremely rare coffee variety that has made waves in recent years for having what many coffee connoisseurs consider the most brilliantly complex and intense flavor profile of all. Originally brought to Costa Rica from the small town of Gesha in southwestern Ethiopia, the Gesha made its way south to Panama before becoming internationally acclaimed. These trees grow very tall and have beautiful, elongated leaves. The cherry and beans of this variety are also elongated in comparison to other varieties. Top quality appears to only result from coffee produced at extremely high elevation. Gesha displays saturated sweetness, superior cleanliness and sparkling flavor that may range from berry and citrus to mango, papaya and peach. A very distinct bergamot-like finish is also typical in the cup profile. To date, it is the champion of coffee varieties.
